If you can’t listen with the sound on and still want to check out chapter one then read on! (Warning, you need to have read book one – OUR HEARTS ENTWINED – first!)

Chapter One

Standing in front of the fog covered mirror, Natalie swiped her hand across it so she could see herself more clearly. She found herself staring. It was something that she had done often in the year since she had returned from Melbourne, as her appearance was changing every day – right before her own eyes.

Gone was the pink glow of her cheeks, the rose of her lips, and the shine in her hair. All that was beautiful about her had been replaced with sallow, lifelessness that sucked against her bones and showed the world the darkness that she felt resided in her soul.

Her parents had been worried about her as she wasn’t eating, she wasn’t working, and she was barely even talking.

They offered her counselling, (which she immediately refused – fat lot of good it did her last time) and put it down to the shock of her discovering she had a twin. They knew that Natalie felt a great disappointment over her twin, Mia, refusing to have anything to do with her.

Although, Natalie wasn’t in the position to cry ‘poor me’. Mia had very good reasons for disliking her. A year ago, Natalie had insinuated herself into Mia’s life, drugged her, and ruined her relationship with her then boyfriend, Eric, instead of doing what any normal person would do and simply introduce herself.

Mia was a good person, and didn’t deserve the trouble Natalie caused in her life. If Natalie had knocked on her door and explained how she found her then she would have welcomed her – gotten to know her. Instead, Natalie acted selfishly, she acted secretly, and she ruined everything there could have been between them. She ruined their chance of being sisters, and she ruined Mia’s chance at having a family.

In Natalie’s mind, her actions were never intentional. She did it all because she fell in love. But the problem was, she fell in love with Eric. She’d seen Mia with her boyfriend while observing them, (she insisted that she was only watching to see what kind of a person her twin was…) but there was something about Eric, something that drew her to him and made her feel as though she would do anything to be with him.

The day he mistook her for Mia, it was an accident. She’d gone out, hoping to run into him, but she never considered that he would think she was her sister. It was silly really, and she should have just told him who she was then and there. But, thinking she was Mia, he kissed her and there was a connection and… well, you know the rest.

She fell in love with Eric, and believing that all is fair in love and war, she did what she felt she had to do – she pretended to be Mia, even though she knew it was wrong. And ever since everything came out in the open, she was suffering. She couldn’t figure out how to live without him. She couldn’t move on.

Eric… His name was always on the tip of her tongue. His face, always at the edge of her mind, his voice, the only sound she heard when no one was around, and his touch – it was the only thing she craved. That is why she’d become so ill. She was pretty sure it was called being ‘lovesick’. There was no cure – not for her anyway.

The sickness had started the moment she left Melbourne to return to Sydney, and it hadn’t gone away since. She didn’t know what to do. She couldn’t continue like this.

She’d tried in vain to contact him – to somehow explain. But every attempt went unanswered. The silence was deafening, and she’d never felt so lonely in all her life.

Natalie firmly believed that Eric was her soul mate. And how does one live without their soul mate? It seemed an impossible feat to her. Her chest ached without him, her stomach couldn’t stand the idea of food, and that spark of energy that gives one purpose in life was gone. Everything was gone.

Letting out a shaky breath, she stared at her reflection and wiped at her blotchy red face. She needed to stay strong. To get through this, she needed every last ounce of strength she had. She was going to end it. She didn’t want to live anymore.

Sliding the razor out of its white paper package, she held it over her wrist before looking at her reflection once more. Tears filled her eyes as a sob escaped her lips. She hated herself, just as she was sure that others hated her. She had ruined everything. She had lost her sister, her hope, and the only chance she ever had at love.

Clenching her teeth, she pressed the razor against her flesh and wincing from the pain, she cut from her wrist, upward. As the blood spilled from her wound, and despite her promise to herself that she wouldn’t cry – her tears flowed, making it harder for her to see as she readied the blade at her other wrist.

Squeezing her eyes shut, she sliced down blindly, gasping this time as the blade went deeper than the one before. Immediately, she dropped the razor in the sink, before leaning up against the tiled wall, crying over all that she had done wrong in her life and wishing she could go back and somehow make things better.

Slowly, as her limbs grew heavy, she leaned against the tiled wall, eventually losing strength and sliding to the floor. In the quiet of the locked bathroom, she sat – alone and growing cold as she sobbed quietly and watched the deep red leave her body, streaming its way toward the drain in the centre of the bathroom. Slowly, her vision blurred, and the red faded, becoming nothing but an empty black.

What am I writing now?

The answer is – OUR LIVES ENTWINED (Entwined Series Book 2)
Next Question – You have an ‘Entwined Series’? WTF?
Answer – I do! 😀
Around eighteen months ago, I wrote a book called Our Hearts Entwined (It was called Alter back then, but for some reason people kept thinking it was paranormal, so I renamed it). It was one of those books that I just loved writing and received amazing feedback for and was the third book I released. It released rather quietly, because I didn’t really know what I was doing back then, but a lot of you have found it along the way, and I know that you’re eagerly waiting for its sequel. (It’s nearly here! YAY!)
I also know, that there are a ton of you who have no idea that I wrote this book, so I thought I’d spotlight it for the rest of July BECAUSE on August 16th – the sequel, OUR LIVES ENTWINED is releasing.
Now, the great news is, I have dropped the price right down on book one, because I really want you all to read it. It’s romantic suspense, set in Melbourne (where I live) and it’s filled with twists and turns and drama and romance, and all of those good things that you love about all of my books.
Here’s the blurb for those of you new to this series –
During a routine meeting at a special needs school in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, Mia is set to discuss the welfare of one of her students. It’s here that she’s introduced to Dr Cayd Donnelly, a man so devastatingly attractive that she almost forgot to say no when he asked her out – despite her loyalty to her long term boyfriend, Eric.
Shortly after, the usually predictable Mia becomes anything but. The change in her behaviour delights Eric, but concerns her best friend Louise when she stops signing while they talk.
After a month of worry and frustration, Mia finally seeks help. Help that comes in the form of an incredibly hard to resist doctor – Cayd.
From there, she discovers just how entwined her life and her heart is with those of others while she navigates a path of passion, treachery, and loss.  Things will never be the same for Mia again…
Ready to meet the characters?  –  Here they are…

MIAMia was having a great hair day when we took this photo – she’s a 23 year old teacher for deaf teens at a special needs school in Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs. She has a close group of friends that she’s had since high school and her life revolves around her friends and work. She has no family left as she was an only child when her parents passed away when she was 19. Everything about Mia’s life is very ‘normal’. That is, until she meets Cayd. She feels an instant attraction to him, something that is so strong that she almost accepted when he asked her out before correcting herself and telling him no, she has a boyfriend. She feels incredibly guilty about her feelings toward Cayd and decides that she wants to spend more time with her boyfriend, Eric, as she feels that perhaps her attraction stemmed from feeling a little disconnected with him. Problems arise when Mia starts forgetting her interactions with Eric, and stops speaking sign language around her best friend, Louise. Everyone becomes increasingly concerned about her and eventually she goes to seek medical help. From there, she is referred to a psychiatrist, which is when she discovers something about herself that is so life altering, things will never be the same for Mia again…

This is Eric – he always seems to be getting out of the shower when I take his photo. I can’t imagine how this keeps happening, but oh well – lucky me!Eric is Mia’s boyfriend. They’ve been together since high school  and have a really easy going relationship. They spend their weekends together and spend the week focusing on their respective jobs at their respective houses. He’s a fairly typical Aussie guy. He’s a plumber by trade, and likes to hang out with his football mates. He’s happy to go with the flow and enjoy life. So when Mia starts to become more affectionate and wants to spend more time with him, he is more than happy to oblige. Especially since she is turning up the heat in the bedroom! He is however worried when Mia can’t remember their interactions and urges her to go and talk to someone.

This is Cayd, somehow I managed to get him shirtless too. I don’t know how I keep managing to do that!Anyway, he comes into the picture as a hot ball of electricity that turns Mia’s head. He’s willing to wait for Mia, but he isn’t willing to sit back and watch while her life falls apart. He’s also willing to put himself out there to help her find out why she’s blacking out and then helps her take steps to fix it. He’s 35 and a psychiatrist  who has spent the majority of his life studying and entertaining the ladies with his lovely abs.

This is Louise, Mia’s best friend. She was too busy looking off into the distance to smile for my photo – which is a shame, because she’s such a great gal! She’s the reason Mia wanted to teach deaf teens. Louise lost her hearing when she was a teen herself and Mia, being her best friend, learned AUSLAN with her so they could easily converse.Louise doesn’t believe that anything is wrong with Mia. She can’t imagine that her best friend could all of a sudden be behaving so differently. She’s fairly stuck on paranormal reasons as to why Mia is behaving so strangely, but she has to concede the truth when confronted with it.

And last but not least we have Josh. He’s kind of lacking in the muscle department, so I took a shot of him while he was getting ready to take Louise out to dinner. Shhh!! Don’t tell him I said that! (Crap, I think he heard me!) Sorry Josh – I really do love you!!Seriously though, Josh is a lovely man. He’s dating Louise, AND he’s Eric’s best mate and house buddy. He’s the guy who’s always willing to help out a friend, and he really adores Louise. He’s even willing to go along with her wild ideas while Mia is acting strangely. Ultimately, Josh is the guy that makes things happen. He’s the guy that knows what’s right and pushes for his friends to see reason.

And there we have it – all of the main characters in OUR HEARTS ENTWINED.
